I'm listing below the items we can put into the accordion menu. Please comment in the reply field of each item separately (unless you have a general comment on the menu to make).
I think the underlying question is: should the new visitors have access to this easily? I'm not sure. The noticeboard is aplace where all kinds of discussions take place, and some might give a false idea of what the site is about.
I think we will not really need to be very general on this. The 'blog' format is less open than the wiki. I suggest we have these details grouped with other editorial details, and also 'tips' for using the site.
That was really a guess. I like Morsels... I like to freely write stuff, as it comes to mind.... but is it the proper way? Should it be in the "Workbench"?
For this we'd need to reorganize pages, etc., according to this method : http://helplogger.blogspot.ca/2012/04/how-to-create-static-pages-in-blogger.html or that http://www.bloggerjourney.com/2012/11/how-to-publish-post-into-different.html.
I don't feel like playing with that now.
There are two other solutions : 1) unfinished posts can be dated far back in time, so they will not appear on the front page 2) it can be pages.
The most simple is to put a date far away in the past. And add a "Morsel" label, for instance. Once the post is ready, the date is updated and the label replaced with proper labels-themes.
Not really. We rely on the Philosopher to power this one, as time has shown. So the Philosopher and Pi are 'sister sites', and that means both link to each other more prominently. I would not bother recommending other sites at all.
Argh. I knew this scattered Noticeboard would lead to that.
I've posted a description of the PI Live in it, under "1 April 2015 at 18:38 IS ANYBODY THERE?? " I just reposted it under here: http://pi-editors-room.blogspot.ca/2015/04/pi-live.html
It's the chat module, Youngjin Kang likes it! (See April 2015 at 13:20, http://www.philosophical-investigations.org/p/noticeboard_30.html.)
Yes, as per comment one above - I think this should go under the general editorial structure page, and if it gets lengthy, that we overspill onto a new sub-page.

ReplyDeleteNoticeboard
ReplyDeleteShould the Noticeboard be "one click away?"

That's true, but core authors and editors are going to be irritated by having to go to two clicks
DeleteWhen I use a page often, I put it in my favorites, and it is generally open when i oopen my browser. I other words, I rarely used PI homepage.
DeleteBut obviously not everyone works this way, so ... okay! And it's a good thing we have a second noticeboard (on THIS site) :)
Rules to philosophize
ReplyDeleteI think it's the right place to have our rules section. Perhaps it could be updated.

DeleteThat's right, unfortunately!
DeleteThere exists a module we can implement, which allows to write an article collectively, with page revisions, etc. It is based on Etherpad.
DeletePhilosophical morsels
ReplyDeleteThat was really a guess. I like Morsels... I like to freely write stuff, as it comes to mind.... but is it the proper way? Should it be in the "Workbench"?
Suggest we simply have a category of morsels which are really posts. However these draft posts will not be front-paged.

Recommended sites
ReplyDeleteReally unsure about this one. Perhaps it's the place to link to the Philosopher website?

DeleteOk. It should be each author's decision to link to other sites when relevant, in posts.
DeleteExactly.
DeleteWorkbenches
ReplyDeleteyes.
grammatically speaking, 'Workbench' seems better
DeleteEven if there is more than one?
DeleteLive
ReplyDeleteDefinitely
Actually, what is this category?
Deletei mean, if we don't need it, then we don't want it.

AH yes, now I like the idea!
DeleteEditing tools
ReplyDeleteI suggest we centralize ALL things of this type, including the registration intricacies.
We can have a table of contents for quick access to subtopics.
Yes, as per comment one above - I think this should go under the general editorial structure page, and if it gets lengthy, that we overspill onto a new sub-page.
DeleteYes, we actually don't have many things to list under tools, for now.
DeleteDeletion.
